Profile
Precision Pultrusion Ltd, Christchurch is a locally owned and operated company that specialises in the manufacture of pultruded solid fibreglass rods. These fibreglass rods can be used in a wide variety of applications including:
- Electric fence rods
- Vine/tree stakes
- High tensile dowels
- Cross country flags
- Harvester rods
- Soft furnishing rods
Precision Pultrusion Ltd were the first company in New Zealand to perfect pultrusion process for the manufacture of solid fibreglass rods in the 1960's, producing extremely strong rods while maintaining a seamless silicon-like surface finish. Now more than 40 years later they continue to research, develop and produce solid fibreglass rods with superior strength and density properties when compared to other products on the market.
The solid fiberglass rods are made using the pultrusion process. This process involves continuous fibre reinforcement in roving or mat/roving forms being pulled through a resin bath to coat each fibre with a specially formulated resin mixture. The coated fibres are then drawn through a heated steel die. Cure of the thermosetting resin is initiated by heat in the die and catalyst in the resin mix. The resulting high strength fiberglass rod is then cut to length and ready to use as it leaves the pultrusion machine.
Properties of pultrusion rods:
- Lightweight/lower density - 25% of steel & 65% of aluminium
- High strength - high tensile & flexural strength kilo for kilo is stronger than steel
- Superior dimensional stability over a wide range of temperatures
- Electrical insulation
- Thermal insulation
- Corrosion resistance
- Electromagnetic transparency
- Consistent cross section
- Inbuilt colour options
- Ease of fabrication and installation
